Soundings

Born: A boy, Joseph Maxwell, to Beth (Bolton) and Frank Slycord on May 19. Maternal grandparents are Dick and Penny Bolton, Hague & Little River, SC.
Born: A boy, Daniel Grant, to Colleen and Michael Benton in Cobleskill, NY on June 9. Carol Clifton Turner is the proud grandmother and Bernie and Fran Clifton, Hague, are pleased to announce their first great-grandchild.
Died: Nancy H. Tier, on Jan. 13. She had been a summer resident of Silver Bay for most of her life. She is survived by two sons, Ben & David and one daughter, Mary Anne Oxford, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Died: William (Bill) Green, 82, a former summer resident of Friends Point, at Greentree Ranch in Loveland, CO on April 26. He is survived by 5 children.
Died: Gordon S. Cameron, 80, New Hague Road, on May 27 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Hannah (Conlon); one daughter, Donna S. Charoneau and one grandson, all of Hague, four brothers and four sisters.

Jessica Frasier, Hague, Named Salutatorian

Jessica Frasier, daughter of Dick and Edna Frasier, Hague, is this year's Salutatorian of the Ticonderoga High School. Jessica will be attending Clarkson University to pursue a degree in Biology in preparation for a career as either an athletic trainer or a physical therapist. Her activities include the National Honor Society, Class President and Vice-President, French Club, Youth & Government, SADD, Yearbook Staff, and Soccer. We are so proud of her accomplishments and wish her much success in her future endeavors.

Perfect attendance in Ti High School for marking periods two through five was attained by Kathryn Rutkowski, Silver Bay, and Eve Trombley, Hague.

Ken Andrea, Pat Andrea, Steven Barnaby, Victoria Belden, Tavish Costello, Christine Frasier,, and Doug Zeyak all achieved perfect attendance for the fifth marking period.

ACE (Achievement, Commitment, and Effort) Award winners from Hague include Peter Hutchinson, (Excellence in English 9); P. J. Corliss (Excellence in English 11)

Katie Breitenbach, Silver Bay, was a winner in the Ti Middle School's ninth annual poetry contest, Honorable mention went to Ted Santaniello and Josh Plass, both of Silver Bay.

Daniel F. Montbriand, son of Mr & Mrs. Fank Montbriand and grandson of Ursula Montbriand, Hague, received his Bachelor of Science Degree, Summa Cum Laude from St. Lawrence Univ. He has been elected to membership in the St. Lawrence Univ. chaper of Phi Beta Kappa, national academic honor society. Only about one percent of all college seniors in the U.S. are elected to this prestigious society. which was founded in 1776.

Richard M. Strum, son of Mr. & Mrs. Norman Strum, Hague, will present a paper entitled "Stagecoaches and Steamboats: Exploring Transportation History at Shelburne Museum" at the National Conference of the Association of Living Historical Farms and Agricultural Museums (ALHFAM) on June 16 in Staunton, VA. Richard is a graduate of Ticonderoga High School and is employed as Education Program Specialist at Shelburne Museum in Shelburne, VT. He is currently the project coordinator for a new Museum publication about the steamer Ticonderoga which is at the museum. It is scheduled to be published in May 1998 to coincide with the completion of a five-year restoration project on the Ti.

Cathie Burdick of Silver Bay has assumed the responsibilities of executive director of the Ticonderoga Festival Guild on June 9. She succeeds Jackie Classen, who left the position on June 6. Ms. Burdick comes to the position with a background in business and in volunteer management. She was co-publisher of American Squaredance magazine for 23 years, with hands-on experience in typesetting, layout, selling advertising, and bulk mailing, as well as managing staff. She is a life member of Girls Scouts USA and served in many capacities in the Erie Shores Girls Scout Council of northern Ohio, which includes a sic-year stint as council president. Ms. Burdick is a member of the Zonta Club of Glens Falls, a service club which seeks to enhance the status of women, and at present is serving as Area Director of District 2 for Zonta International. She is an elder of the Putnam United Presbyterian Church and serves as chair of the Worship and Spiritual Life Committee. She leads an adult discussion group and sings in the choir.
