The Hague Hoax Fest for 1998 has come and gone but with it comes a renewed effort on the part of the Fest Committee to have our Lake George monster returned to his home waters in Hague. According to our historian and others who remember, the monster was loaned many years ago to Louis Spelman, and somehow was never returned. Through the years he has been to the Virgin Islands and back and according to the information that we have he was loaned to the Lake George Museum for an unspecified period of time, largely because Hague did not have an adequate place to house him at that time. We understand that the Lake George Historical Society has launched an effort to keep him in Lake George. Since the monster was born and lived in Hague, we think he must feel very out of place at the southern end of the lake. There is no connection whatsoever between our monster and southern Lake George. The committee, with the backing of the Hague Chamber of Commerce, the Town Board and the Hague Historical Society, is renewing its efforts to have it returned to us. We now have a beautiful community building and a very nice museum, in which he can be displayed. He is part of Hague's heritage. We are looking for help in our efforts. Perhaps someone out there who is interested in Hague's history could give us advice. We need people to support this effort by writing letters and generally getting it publicized. We would certainly appreciate all the help we can get. If you are interested in this project, please let Judy Foster, Chairman of the Hague Hoax Fest Committee and president of the Hague Chamber of Commerce know. If you are completely in the dark about the monster and would like a copy of the history of it, please write or call me, Dottie Henry, at 151 New Hague Road, Hague, NY 12836-2605 and I will be happy to send you a copy. While we are on the subject of hoaxes, I found the issue of "Hague Mystery", a publication of the Hague Chronical (also a mystery), to be quite entertaining. It is supposedly a production of the Hague Hysterical Society, and it truly is hysterical. We have had two issues of the Hague Chronical and now one issue of Hague Mystery. To Whom It May Concern: We find these spoofs very clever and we could surely use your help in getting back the monster. You seem to have the expertise. How about it? . . .djh A community should be judged good not because it is technologically advanced, or swimming in material riches; it is good if it offers people a chance to enjoy as many aspects of their lives as possible, while allowing them to debvelop their potential in pursuit of even greater challenges. . . . .Anonymous File: http://tracylee.com/haguechronicle/98aug/monsterback.shtml Last Modified: Thursday, 18-Oct-2007 00:36:49 EDT Local Date and Time: Wednesday, 09-Jul-2008 00:25:58 EDT This site brought to you by Tracy Lee Designs |
